The National Association of Parks and Recreation of Mexico (ANPR) held the first edition of the ANPR 2022 Awards, where the “Insecta. Forest Festival” won first place in the Economy category. This award recognizes, rewards and disseminates good practices, projects, activities, events or initiatives implemented in public spaces, urban parks and recreation. Projects must demonstrate that they create better urban environments, helping to strengthen the social fabric of communities with greater economic, social and environmental resilience. The award was awarded within the framework of the inauguration of the World Urban Parks Congress of the World Urban Parks in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León. The distinction was received by the Executive Director of the Chapultepec Forest, Mónica Pacheco Skidmore; Miriam Gastélum Aispuro, Community Manager of the Coppel Foundation; and the Director of the Pro Bosque de Chapultepec Trust, Lilia Haua Miguel.
To obtain this Economics category award, the ANPR qualified: general presentation, creativity, innovation, originality in the proposal, Impact of the project, context in which it is developed (area, vulnerability, among others). “Insect. Forest Festival 2022”, was a celebration and tribute to the uniqueness, diversity and complexity of the most abundant beings on earth through Mali Email List plays, operas, workshops, conferences and concerts inspired by the life of insects. The event was visited by 1.6 million people and took place from April 14 to 17, 2022 in the Chapultepec Forest in the First and Second Section. The festival was attended by three large exhibitions: Microsculpture, an exhibition of 37 large-format photographs of insects by the English photographer Levon Biss, 11 Monumental Insects created by the Zion Art collective and the permanent installation of 8 sculptures “El Lago de las Típulas” , by maestro Amador Montes. This unprecedented event had a considerable impact of more than a million people reached on social networks, the importance of the existence of insects in the life of the planet was placed on the public agenda, generating more than 100 publications in media such as television, radio, digital and printed press and the website had more than 40 thousand visits.
Forest Festival was an initiative that included the sum of government actors through the Chapultepec Forest Directorate, civil society with the Chapultepec Pro Forest Trust and the private initiative with the sponsorship of the Coppel Foundation, as well as the collaboration of allies that contributed to the success of the festival such as civil associations (Ojos que Sent AC, La Cana AC, La Vaca Independiente, the scientific, academic and artistic community, as well as national and international media, as well as the participation of more than 100 volunteers who participated in the activities of this festival. The first edition of the ANPR Awards also distinguished the categories of: Inclusion, Resilience and Equity, Health and Comprehensive Well-being, Environment and sustainability, Design – Landscape Architecture, and the Special Individual Awards: Seed Award and Root Award. The ANPR is a non-governmental organization, founded in Mexico in 2016, whose mission is the professionalization of all its members and members of the urban parks and public spaces sector in Latin America, to help improve the social fabric of communities.
